Nov. 5, 2024 California State Senate District 35 - Districtwide Election Results

Congratulations to Laura Richardson, the winner of the November 5, 2024, California State Senate District 35 Election. Your dedication and commitment to public service has earned you the trust and support of the community. As you assume your role, may you lead with integrity, transparency, and a steadfast focus on the well-being of all residents of the District 35. Citizens Coalition extend our best wishes to you for a successful tenure in serving the district and the residents of the city of Compton.

California State Senate District 35 encompasses several communities in Los Angeles County, including Carson, Compton, Gardena, Hawthorne, Inglewood, Lawndale, and portions of Los Angeles. For the current map of District 35, please refer to the California Citizens Redistricting Commission's official map. Please note that the state Senate map enacted after the 2020 census will fully take effect after the 2024 elections:



Election results will change throughout the ballot counting canvass period as vote-by-mail ballots, provisional ballots (including conditional voter registration provisional ballots), and other ballots are tallied. Ballots will continue to be processed and counted after Election Night.

These figures are preliminary, as vote-by-mail, provisional, and other ballots continue to be processed and counted after Election Night. The final, certified results are expected by December 13, 2024.


Both candidates advanced to the general election following the all-party primary held on March 5, 2024. In that primary, Richardson led with 27.8% of the vote, and Chambers followed with 24.5%.


This election was notable for featuring two Democratic candidates competing for the seat, reflecting the district's political landscape. The seat was previously held by Democrat Steven Bradford, who did not seek re-election in 2024.
