In A Democracy, The People Vote—Not The City Administration!

The Decision Belongs to the People!

The City Attorney should be directly accountable to the voters, not handpicked by city officials. In a democracy, the people vote—not the city administration! The city’s responsibility is to serve the people, and it should not attempt to influence the outcome of the election.

When the city administration publicly supports a stance on an issue like Measure CA, it raises serious concerns about fairness and neutrality. Here’s what’s wrong:

  • Conflict of Interest: The City Attorney oversees critical legal matters for the city. If the city administration influences the vote to appoint the City Attorney, it creates the risk of conflicts of interest. Future attorneys may feel obligated to serve the officials who appointed them, undermining their independence.

  • Undermining Democracy: Elections give voters the power to make decisions freely. When the city administration tries to influence the election, it risks manipulating the democratic process and limiting the people’s voice.

  • Imbalanced Influence: The city administration has significant power and resources, which can sway public opinion unfairly. By taking sides, the administration could overshadow the voices of residents and community groups who don’t have the same platform.

In short, the city administration's involvement compromises fairness, raising concerns about transparency, accountability, and the proper functioning of democracy.

City Statement on the official Facebook Page!!!
"Measure CA is on the ballot this upcoming Election Day. A simple majority vote is required to pass this amendment."
It is a shame for the city administration to attempt influencing the election outcome!!!

The members of the Citizens Coalition for Change argue that keeping the position elected helps ensure transparency and independence from the City Council's influence.
