It is with deep sorrow that we share the passing of Artra Wynn, Board Member of the Citizens' Coalition for Change and an avid community activist, who departed this life on Wednesday, August 16, 2025, surrounded by her loving family.
We honor and celebrate the remarkable life of Artra Wynn, a tireless community activist and beloved leader whose dedication, courage, and unwavering commitment to the City of Compton have left an indelible mark on our neighborhoods and in the hearts of all who had the privilege of working alongside her.
With vision and passion, Artra stood at the forefront of efforts to protect, uplift, and unify Compton’s families. She was a champion of civic engagement, always working to bring residents and leadership together. Through her involvement with the Quarterly Breakfast with the Mayor, she created space for open dialogue and collaboration, helping address the pressing needs of our community.
Her determination to safeguard the health and well-being of Compton families was pivotal in the fight to defeat Marijuana Initiatives: Measure C and Measure I, ensuring that the will of the people was not only heard but respected.

Artra’s leadership extended far beyond advocacy. As Co-editor and key contributor to the Compton Block Club Commission Newsletter, she kept residents informed, connected, and empowered to take action in their neighborhoods. Her commitment to transparency and democracy shone brightly when she co-organized and co-hosted the 2017 Election Candidates Forum, providing the community with a fair platform to hear directly from those seeking to represent them.
Her spirit of service was also seen in her faithful support of veterans—volunteering her time, energy, and resources to the Compton Veterans Stand Down, ensuring that those who served our country felt appreciated and supported.
Through her selfless service, fearless advocacy, and deep love for Compton, Artra Wynn leaves behind a lasting legacy of empowerment and community pride. Her example is a reminder to us all that real change begins with unity, dedication, and the courage to do what is right.
Artra will be deeply missed, but her impact will continue to inspire and guide us for years to come.
