VOTE NO on Compton Measure CA!!!

Updated: Oct 18

Citizens Coalition for Change is Opposing Compton Measure CA!

VOTE NO on Compton Measure CA!!!

Being against Compton Measure CA means you choose the City Attorney to continue being elected by the people, and NOT appointed by the City Council.

In simple terms, voting against Compton Measure CA supports keeping the current system we have in place in the City of Compton, where you, the Compton voters have the direct power to choose the City Attorney in elections. If this questionable measure passes, the City Council would take over the responsibility of selecting and appointing the City Attorney instead.

One of our major concerns is that if Measure CA passes and the City Attorney becomes an appointed position by the City Council, it could potentially open the door for nepotism and corruption like it was the case back in 2000s. This is because the decision to appoint would be in the hands of a few council members, rather than being decided by the broader voting public.

If the City Attorney were to be appointed, there is a risk that the selection process could be influenced by political favors or personal connections, leading to less accountability and impartiality compared to an elected City Attorney who is directly answerable to the voters.

The members of the Citizens Coalition for Change argue that keeping the position elected helps ensure transparency and independence from the City Council's influence.

OUR VOICE — OUR CHOICE

VOTE “NO” ON “MEASURE CA

Here are the key reasons why "Citizens Coalition for Change" opposes Measure CA:

Lack of Accountability

When the City Attorney is appointed by the council, they may be more influenced by political interests rather than being accountable to the will of the people.

Limited Transparency

The council's selection process lacks transparency, making it difficult for residents to understand how or why a City Attorney was chosen, which can lead to a lack of trust and confidence.

Decreased Representation

By removing the voters' ability to elect the City Attorney, the appointed candidate may not fully represent the diverse views and needs of the community.

Conflict of Interest

The council may select a City Attorney who aligns with their own agenda, which could result in biased and unfair execution of legal duties.
